TRAN 360: DOING BUSINESS IN COSTA RICA

This course will introduce students to the cultural, legal and business environments in Costa Rica. The course will focus on the practical issues that a foreigner will encounter in conducting business in international venues, focusing on managing in a developing or transition economy in a third world country, and combining the academic research and skills with the experience and wisdom of management practitioners. They will also visit companies in Costa Rica where managers will share their experiences about doing business in the country.

LACS 101: INTRODUCTION TO LATIN AMERICA AND CARIBBEAN STUDIES

 Students will be exposed to an array of cultural activities and study excursions designed to encourage direct interaction with the Costa Rican people. Students will learn about the rich heritage of Costa Rica and other Latin American Countries, as reflected in its cultural, economy, political and social history, art, music, literature and rich natural environment. Study-visits and excursions with cultural activities and lectures will be an integral part of the student experience while in Costa Rica.

 

WE WILL MEET ON THE WEEK PRIOR TO THE TRIP TO START LECTURES, OAKS WILL BE OUR MEANS OF COMMUNICATION (including POSTING MATERIALS ONLINE)!

METHODOLOGY

Both courses are hands-on and require a lot of interaction of students with the local culture. Students will be responsible to read course material and be tested with Quizzes/Exams. We will also visit companies ranging from Big Multinational Companies to small family-owned businesses.
